SFX-L Sizing & Case Clearance
SFX-L offers quieter operations for small form factor PCs but has installation caveats. This guide outlines dimensions and case fitment limitations.
Dimensions Comparison
While sharing the same mounting holes and width/height as standard SFX, SFX-L units are deeper:
- Standard SFX: 125 mm (W) × 63.5 mm (H) × 100 mm (D)
- SFX-L: 125 mm (W) × 63.5 mm (H) × 130 mm (D)
The extra 30mm depth of the SFX-L unit can collide with modular GPU brackets, AIO coolers, or cable routing spaces in extremely compact ITX cases (like the SSUPD Meshlicious or FormD T1).
Acoustic Advantages
The primary reason to buy an SFX-L unit is the fan size. Standard SFX PSUs are limited to 92mm fans, which must spin fast under heavy loads, generating high noise levels. SFX-L units fit a standard 120mm slim fan, running much quieter and offering longer Zero-RPM silent mode periods.
⚠ ITX Clearance Warning: Check your ITX chassis manual before ordering. Some cases explicitly list 'SFX PSUs only' and will not fit SFX-L units without colliding with AIO radiator fans.
